Self care doesn't have to be a day at the spa, a long bubble bath, or even getting all dressed up. Self care is just that, taking time to take care of yourself. It's saying other things are important, but so am I.

I keep saying it, but it's because I fully believe it "I can't pour out of an empty well". I need to recharge so I have something to offer my husband, my kids, my family, and my friends.

This morning I recharged my spiritual man by spending time with God. Now I'm taking a moment to recharge my physical man. Nope. No snowy trip to Starbucks this morning, just an iced coffee in a cup that makes me feel good. I sat in a comfy chair to drink it. I gave the kids options where they could play so, I could have this moment. It was taking a quick time out to mentally decompress. I listened to the soothing sounds of my washer, did some deep breathing, let calls go to voicemail, and stayed off social media.

Amazing things happened in my small moment of self care. I quieted myself. I enjoyed my coffee. I started to pray and talk with God. I thanked Him for my comfy chair and whatever else I laid my eyes on. Self care and spiritual care are intertwined because I am created in His image. I am a spiritual being and not merely physical. I don't really have to have separate blocks for God and myself even if my previous description just alluded to that. Sometimes I talk out of both sides of my mouth. Sue me! 😀My whole life belongs to God and I want my life to belong to Him. He knows and I know I can not do life by myself!

Now back to the amazing things in my decompression moment talking with God, I remembered something substantial. I forgot to take my medication this morning. Maybe I would've remembered later. Maybe not. Self care. It potentially saved the rest of my day today.

Lastly, a final thought. Self care is not saying I love myself more than you. It's saying because I love you I need to love and take care of myself. Self care.
