Jesus and His calling

I was up super early this morning so, I decided to start my devotions while feeding the baby. Opening my app, the Bible verse of the day is John 1:14 "So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son." John 1:14 NLT

As I dwelt on this verse I came to a conclusion. We know Jesus is the Word this verse references so, He also became human full of unfailing love and faithfulness. However He was all of those things, while He was a baby! This was hard to comprehend as I was literally holding my newborn Olive.

Yes, at Christmas time we think of Jesus being born as Savior wrapped in swaddling clothes. But when the seasons over, that thought is often over. I think I always subconsciously thought one day Jesus stepped into His role of Savior when He reached a certain age. An age where He could fully understand. Maybe I imagined it was when Jesus was baptized and you see the dove and heavens open. No. Nope. Not it! Jesus was the unfailing love and faithfulness in human form as a tiny baby ALWAYS. He never ceased at any point to be human or God. You could even argue this point to originating at conception.

Grasping this view makes Luke 2:49 make more sense. In Luke 2, Jesus is "lost" or separated from his family as they traveled. They searched days for Him and his mother found Him in the temple. Being a normal mom she scolded Him and was upset. Jesus responds in verse 49 "And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

Mary even having given birth to the Savior still thought like I did. One day He'd be our Redeemer, but for now He's my little boy. I totally get her thinking now that I'm a mom, but it was still false thinking. He has never ceased to be the Redeemer, even as you changed His diapers. And the mind blowing thing is He has never not known He was the Redeemer. That explains His response to her. He Has always known His mission, so she shouldn't and we shouldn't have been surprised He'd be where His Father was.

There is no separating the two. Jesus was fully God and fully man every second He was on this earth. Fully God and fully man in every action, deed, response, and thought on this earth from birth to death. To truly fathom that is mind blowing. There was never a time Jesus stepped into His mission or calling. He ALWAYS operated in it.
