Is God Fair?

I was sitting in my car today thinking about how many times I've said or heard "That's not Fair!" Some days it just rolls off the tongue like old hat. However, today I thought of Jesus. Was it fair that He was arrested, charged, tried, and killed the same day? Additionally, was it fair an innocent man was killed?

In our own country there are many sentenced to the death penalty. Comparatively, it may take decades to be carried out. So at face value our minds would say, what happened to Jesus is the epitome of unfair.

But wait. God said it was fair. God stepped in and said it was the only way to reconcile us to Him. Jesus' death became fair.

Oftentimes we can measure fairness on a "me" scale. What makes me feel good. What do I say is the right thing concerning my well being. Yet, God works on a world scale. He does undeniably loves us individually, but we can't forget John 3:16 for the sake of our comfort.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." NKJV

God loved us all, so to sacrifice one was the right and fair thing to do. Even still, the one He sacrificed was His Son, not ours. God did not chose one of our relatives to die in our place. He did not take our brother, sister, aunt, or uncle. God made it personal to Him and not us. A child can be as close to the hearts as you can get. He sacrificed His own child.

This starts to seem very unbalanced on the fairness scale the more you think about it. Look at how much God has done in light of our contribution. Again God said this is the only way, so it is fair. It doesn't make rational sense, but it makes "God sense". It makes sense in light of scripture. It makes sense in our spirits because we now have the ability to have God dwell within us.

Maybe things that happen or things that God does seem unfair. However, it may only be related to the "viewer" we are looking through. Is it a me only "viewer" or are we willing to have a world "viewer"? That will make a big difference the next time we want to boldly say "That's not fair
