My kids love Daniel Tiger and I must admit I love him too. That little cartoon feline has taught my kids so many good things. When I couldn't get them to clean up, a clean up song from Daniel Tiger did the trick. I'm not offended they did it because of him and not me. That Tiger and I are allies not enemies.

A song from an episode we recently watched has been replaying in my head. I can't shake it. I even catch myself singing it out loud. It goes "I like you. I like you. I like you just the way you are. "

When I think about how simple but powerful this is I'm amazed. The back story to the episode was it's show and tell day at school. Each character gets to show something they like to do or is good at. One of the characters kept copying the other performances with disastrous results. With each failure, the teacher and class would sing "I like you. I like you. I like you just the way you are." He needed to stop trying to be someone else and just be himself.

Today I imagined God singing this same song to us. We spend way too much time trying to copy, imitate, and be like others in a way that makes us depressed about who we actually are. Today God is singing "I like you. I like you. I like you just the way you are. " He likes who He created. Don't try to be someone else.

On that same note, there are things that we need to let go of and be delivered from. To that I believe God says "I like you the way you are, but I love you too much to leave you here. " God wants to pull us out of our mess, out of our sin, out of our dangerous situation because He loves us.

Take God's hand today and listen to Him sing about how much He likes you. Be the "you" He created and not an imitation. God doesn't make copies, only originals.
